The principle features have remained unchanged from the time of its construction in 1766. The plasterwork in the church has been quoted as being 'unmatchable elsewhere in the county' and more recently as 'one of the most elegant...in the North of England', yet this handsome building is little known outside its parish. The plasterwork is attributed to Giuseppe Cortes who was also responsible for the plasterwork in Somerset House, Halifax.
