CASTLES: The Unquenchable Thirst of William Hearst.
A lecture by :- Mark Meredith
William Hearst had an obsession: in 1935 Forbes magazine called him ‘quantitively the number one collector of Objects d’Art’ and when he died the New York Times stated that during the 1920s and 30s he accounted for 25% of the worlds market activity. To achieve this he created many ‘homes’ in which he hoarded his treasures and lived a life of unparalleled extravagance, but when he died he was paying rent to his creditors.
