Communi-tea spirit: Nottingham funeral home hosts fundraising coffee m

A Nottingham funeral home is inviting the public to come along to a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Co-op Funeralcare Beeston, on Station Road, is inviting the local community to attend a fundraising coffee morning on Friday 27 September, from 11am-2pm, and donate to their ‘bra bank’.

On the day, the team will be putting the ‘fun’ in ‘fundraising’, and attendees will be able to enjoy cakes and refreshments alongside a raffle, book sale, and a game of ‘guess how many bras are in the bin’.

This event comes two years after Funeral Arranger Michelle Barker was diagnosed with breast cancer. Now in remission, Michelle, alongside Funeral Director Anna Freeman, and the rest of the team at Co-op Funeralcare Beeston, were keen to begin fundraising for cancer support charities.

A bra donation point in aid of Against Breast Cancer has also been set up at the home for locals to bring along unwanted or unloved bras. Every item donated will be recycled, given a new lease of life, and sold to fund cancer research.

Michelle said: “I was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago, so I know just how much it can affect you and your loved ones.

“The team at Co-op Funeralcare Beeston have been so supportive throughout my journey. We want to help others in our community who may have received a diagnosis, know someone who has, or who have lost a loved one to cancer.

“I know from experience that meeting people who have shared a similar experience can be incredibly comforting, and help to establish an important support network, which is why we decided to host our community coffee morning.”

Anna Freeman, Funeral Director at Co-op Funeralcare Beeston, said: “Whether it’s to come along and share your story, access support during a difficult time or simply to enjoy some company alongside a brew and a slice of cake – we look forward to opening our doors to the people of Beeston.

“As a member-owned organisation, we’re pleased to have the opportunity
