Gleaning, Twisting, Coiling

A one-day workshop with artist and maker Fred Branson.

About the event:
During this workshop, participants will have an opportunity to explore different plant materials from the Braziers Park landscape, working with them to create cordage, as well as coiled surfaces and vessels. Participants will get the chance to glean and forage their own materials as well as work with materials that Fred has previously gathered and processed as part of a one-week residency at Braziers Park.
The group will learn to identify plants that can be turned into cordage as well as made into mats, bowls, and sculptures, using the coiling technique. Participants will be encourage to pick, snap, split, scrape, and prod plants, getting to know them and their weaving affordances. The aim of this workshop is to create an awareness of our natural surroundings, as well as renewing inspiration for participants’ own creative practice.
The emphasise of this course will not be on having a perfected piece to take home, but rather gaining skills and inspiration as well as creating space for experimentation, risks, and new understandings.
Times:
