Sonic Contaminations: Extended Listening & Non-Human Propaganda

A two-day workshop with Laura Selby.

About the event:
Over the course of the weekend Laura will take participants through different ways of listening to the non-human. The idea of contamination as collaboration will be explored through extended listening-led practices and the creation of non-human propaganda through chromatographic printing.
The workshop begins exploring the grounds of Braziers Park carrying out exercises exploring deep listening and field recording, revealing worlds of sound normally inaudible to our human perception, creating extended listening states. These exercises are explored individually and collectively forming a sonic-web of relationship between participants and the acoustic ecologies explored.
During the afternoon participants will begin preparations for chromatographic printing while ideas on contamination as collaboration and different non-human listenings are shared and discussed.
On the second day participants will create a series of chromatographic prints forming non-human propaganda pieces in response to the listening and reflections of day 1.
As the prints begin developing over the course of the day, participants follow listening exercises, finishing with a non-human and human collaborative improvisation performance.

About the facilitator:
Laura Selby is a sound artist, and experience producer from Croydon. Fascinated in revealing the hidden perspectives and narratives of organisms through sonification, from mycelium, moss, concrete to microbe. Her crafted workshops aim to engage communities and expand personal and communal perspectives by sharing in research-led encounters and discussion.
