Britain's What's On Event Guide
Song Foundation
Four break-out acts come together for a vintage night of exhilarating music at The Cockpit. They know each other, they share a love of great tracks from the world of rock, Blues, pop soul and folk.
The handle is the SONG FOUNDATION, a colourful collective of friends including radical singer/songwriter TIM THOMAS, scintillating Welsh duo ACOUSTIC NOTATION, the mesmerising harmonies of the trio AGES and the powerful, authentic ten-piece band THE SOUL CONNECTION.
What lies at the heart of this show? - it's the song. Yes! The song's the thing! It's the melodies you remember, which make you smile and tap your toes, the tunes which set your feelings racing. Deep down we recall what they inspire and it links us all. Humans are musical beings and certain notes, certain chords and cadences resonate in our souls. Maybe it's the words which make us laugh or cry, maybe it's a passage in the instrumental, maybe it's the unmistakable timbre of a singer's voice. Whatever, certain songs are classics, they live on. Take Respect & Dock of The Bay by Otis Redding or The Midnight Hour by Wilson Pickett. You will get fabulous performances of those from THE SOUL CONNECTION. Does When Will I Be Loved send a chill down your spine? ACOUSTIC NOTATION do a killer version of that. The excellent trio AGES do knockout renditions of Dreams (Fleetwood Mac) and Castle on the Hill (Ed Sheeran). TIM THOMAS is excused all this as he does original stuff but tries with all his might to emulate the great song-writers.
This event celebrates the best of this. It's what troubadours have done for hundreds of years. Most of the material is well-known and loved. Some however is new and these, hopefully, will become evergreens because their tunes and words are crafted with the age-old skills of rhyme, rhythm and melody.
