Million Seller
J.A.M. String Collective [EMERGENCE]
Million Seller - @matthewjcalvert
Million Seller is the new album and project led by Matthew Calvert, one of the founding members of the underground alt-rock sensation Three Trapped Tigers. The inspiration for the project originated as Matt revisited his collection of early 70s releases by Herbie Hancock's Mwandishi group – some of the pianist’s most overlooked and least understood albums – 50 years on from that band’s last release (Sextant, 1973).
Matt Calvert - electronics, synths
Ståle Storløkken - synths, hammond organ
Matthew Bourne - memorymoog
Dave Smith - drum kit, sabar
Sam Wilson - percussion
Mamadou Sarr - sabar, djembe
Kadialy Kouyate - kora
J.A.M. String Collective - @jamstringcollective
J.A.M. is a London based all-female improvising string trio, weaving songlike melodies into open group improvisations, creating spontaneous filmic textures, injected with a solid dose of groove and the Blues. They perform as a trio, as well as with singers and instrumentalists, forming their collective, and placing improvising strings at the forefront. In May 2023 they released their debut EP joined by legendary saxophonist Steve Williamson (The Steve Williamson Experience), and emerging drum talent Zoe Pascal (Zenel), supported by Help Musicians. This followed with an 11-date UK tour including a sold out EP launch gig at Toulouse Lautrec, in association with Tomorrow's Warriors and Women in Jazz. In November 2023 they were awarded the Peter Whittingham Jazz Developmental award, which will support them in writing new material for their first full length album in collaboration with Jonas Gwangwa Composition Initiative Awardee, composer Oleta Haffner, bringing together classical and jazz influences.
