Victoria Requiem by Candlelight

NC3 invite you to enjoy an evening of Renaissance music by candlelight. Our Principal Conductor, George Parris, leads us for this concert. Doors open at 7pm to allow you to collect a drink from the bar before taking your seat.

A unique take on Toma´s Luis de Victoria’s crowning glory, his 1605 Requiem, with organ accompaniment in response to the text ‘Versa est in luctum cithara mea, et organum meum vocem flentium’ (‘My harp is turned to mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that weep’).

The programme also includes expressive settings by other Spanish Renaissance composers, including Juan Gutierrez de Padilla who mostly worked in Mexico. 400 years later, Arvo Pa¨rt’s Virgencita was composed as a gift to the people of Mexico.
