Concert: Game of Queens
Early Music ensemble Charivari Agréable present Game of Queens, the extraordinary story of the 16th century female monarchs, consorts and regents who wielded power in England, Scotland and France and the complex relations between these three Kingdoms. Daughters, wives and mothers of Kings, this “monstrous regiment of women” found themselves carving out new roles as rulers and diplomats in a world fractured by the Reformation into powerful religious and dynastic factions.
Isobel Collyer, Layil Barr and Kah-Ming Ng once more take us back to a time when Shaw House was a new and lively country mansion, and fill its Great Hall with the music, speeches and poetry of the period, performing music by Attaignant, Arbeau, Bataille, Dowland and Guédron, as well as the sonnets and speeches of Shakespeare.
