A time of hope and change: Craftswomen in post-war Britain 1945 -1960
a talk by Fiona Morison
'Women have always been supreme makers of craft - skilled, thoughtful, adaptable, creative and even frugal when necessary. Post war Britain was a country on the cusp of many changes - intellectual, economic, scientific, technical and above all, social. Into this exciting new world came opportunity, an opportunity grasped by a new generation of craftswomen; the makers. My talk will explore some examples of these remarkable women and their work, and why they could be so creative at this time as they responded to the world around them.'
