Staffordshire 3 Peaks Challenge Walk
The Staffordshire Moorlands are often overlooked when people think of the Peak District, yet our route not only takes you over the three highest peaks in the county, but over its 26kms (16 miles) showcases the numerous highlights and landmarks of this fabulous area. The route is certainly not one to be taken lightly, crossing rough and uneven ground for much of the way, and offering up 900m of ascent, but it also rewards you with amazing cliff edge views, wide stretching panoramas, idyllic beauty spots and incredible rock formations. In many senses the 3 Peaks are merely the frame around which the walk is built, and we summit The Roaches, Oliver and Cheek’s Hill, in ascending order. However there is so much more on offer: Axe Edge Moor, Three Shires Head, Gradbach Woods, Ramshaw Rocks and Black Brook Nature Reserve.
For those taking on a National or Yorkshire 3 Peaks this walk offers an ideal opportunity to fine tune kit and strategies, while offering a great day’s training for upcoming challenges… as well as being a tough and challenging day out in it’s own right.
Sunday 27th October 2024. We meet at Gradbach Car Park (W3W develop.entitles.bonus) between 09.00 and 09.15 After a quick safety briefing we begin our walk. The walk is approximately 26km (16 miles) long, and follows footpaths, bridleways, rocky paths and quiet roads. There are some uneven, boggy and rocky sections, and the very nature of the event means there will be some long ascents and descents. Our pace will be relaxed! Guiding is in a small group of no more than 8 people by an experienced local guide. The walk concludes back at Gradbach Mill at approximately 16.30 with the opportunity for a debrief over drinks and food as a gesture of economic support to the local community (Subject to cafe opening hours).
