Stepping up to the plate! Sway care home launches food bank drop-off

A care home in Sway has partnered with a local food bank to launch a new drop-off point for unwanted items.

To celebrate this year’s Harvest Festival, residents and team members at Care UK’s Sway Place, on Church Lane, are encouraging the local community to donate their extra, unused or unwanted non-perishable food items to Sway’s new foodbank drop-off-point – located in the care home’s reception.

Each year, Harvest Festival celebrates the time when crops have been gathered from fields and people can reflect and show gratitude for the food that they have. It dates back to when people relied on local crops for food and famers would give thanks for a good harvest.

The foodbank drop-off point, which will see donations made to New Forest Basic Bank, will be live at Sway Place until Thursday 31st October with the drop-off point located in the home’s reception.
The home is also inviting the local community to their ‘Harvest Themed Trivia Night’ on Thursday 10th October, where guests can enjoy live music, fancy dress, and food prepared by the home’s Head Chef. The home is encouraging those attending to bring along an unwanted food items as entry to the event.

Sway Place will also be inviting school children from Little Flyers to the home to get involved in the Harvest festivities by making bread their very own with the residents.

Laura Blake Home Admissions Advisor at Sway Place said: “At Sway Place, we are always looking for ways to give back and support our community and local charities, which is why we’re delighted to be partnering with New Forest Basic Bank and launching our first ever foodbank drop-off point.

“In these challenging times, we know many people may be struggling, and with Christmas fast approaching, it’s more important than ever to support foodbanks which provide a vital lifeline for many members of our local community.

“We’d encourage those who have unwanted or unused items to come and visit Sway Place and support us to he
