Britain's What's On Event Guide
Festive Weekend
On 7 and 8 December, visit Chiltern Open Air Museum in Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire to step back in time and find out about how Christmas was celebrated in the past.
The Museum’s collection of historic buildings will be decorated traditionally for Christmas with ivy, natural foliage, and candles. The 1940s Prefab will show how people celebrated a restrained wartime Christmas enlivened by make-do-and-mend decorations. The forge will be lit and the blacksmith busy hammering away making winter products. Tudor re-enactors will be bringing the site to life showing pre-Christmas preparations and visitors are invited to help them make traditional kissing boughs.
There will artisan craft stalls around the Museum full of locally made products as well as stalls from the traveling historical market. The Museum’s shop will be stocked with items that would make great gifts.
Local choirs will be providing some festive musical entertainment. You can take part in candle-making, listen to festive storytelling, take part in craft activities, see Father Christmas and have a ride on some festive ponies.
The event will run from 10am – 4pm. Pre-booking your tickets is advised. For further information visit www.coam.org.uk
