Britain's What's On Event Guide
Smoke
Alex has a new message on Insta from his boyfriend Ben. But Ben died two years ago. What, initially, appears to be an ‘everyday’ hack, soon, and very quickly, turns into something quite different, as Alex’s life spirals out of control. Reality meets fantasy, in the premiere of this new solo queer-thriller meets savage queer-comedy.
From playwright and performer Alexis Gregory; Riot Act (Kings Head Theatre, West End, touring), FutureQueer (Kings Head Theatre), Sex/Crime (Soho Theatre), and acclaimed film and theatre director Campbell X; Stud Life, DES!RE, My White Best Friend (Royal Court Theatre).
Alex's story is presented in a stripped back form. No lighting design. No stage effects. Just Alex, his story, his mobile phone, and...you. Smoke explores being a man, being queer, family, drugs, class, conspiracy theories, hackers, today’s obsession with self-documentation, living and dying in the digital age, Another Dead Gay on social media, truth, fakery, love, forgiveness, survival, and the Demon Twink in Starbucks. Smoke is a wild assault to the senses, and peak into a hidden world.
