‘Make Do and Mend’ Poppy Craft Activity

Armistice Day is marked on the 11th November every year. It is a time to remember those who have given their lives in service for the country from the First World War to present day.

Poppies are often worn around Armistice Day, they are sign of remembrance but also a sign of peace. After the First World War when fighting ended, bleak empty battlefields were left but even in all the darkness, poppies still grew.

We invite you to make your own poppy to take home or to decorate our Flying Nightingale’s Exhibition, as we remember these incredible brave nurses of the Second World War.

Make Do and Mend was a key motto to live by in the second World War and in this spirit, all poppies will be made from scrap fabric form the Work and Play Scrap Store that otherwise would be sent to landfill.

This craft activity is free with general admission to the museum.
