Tribute to a Hungarian Legend
Experience a Night of Musical Mastery with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Alexander Shelley.
In a historic moment, the evening features the UK premiere of a new piano concerto by the renowned Hungarian composer Peter Eötvös. This piece is a tribute to the legendary pianist György Cziffra, who overcame immense hardships to become a 20th-century icon. The concerto will be performed by János Balázs, who premiered it in Paris in 2021.
The concert programme includes Smetana's lively comedy overture, setting a high-spirited tone for the night. It culminates in the triumphant sounds of Brahms' Second Symphony, a work brimming with radiant melodies inspired by the composer’s idyllic summer holidays.
Co-presented by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Cziffra Festival, this concert is a celebration of musical excellence you won’t want to miss.
