Britain's What's On Event Guide
Midweek Winter Special: Buxton Moorland Experience. 11/12/2024
We realise that there is so much for visitors to do and see in Buxton, and further afield in the Peak District. While many people love the idea of getting out onto our famous moorlands, time, uncertainty about routes, and unpredictable weather can combine to hinder exploration of these iconic landscapes. Our Buxton Moorland Experience is the perfect solution to these issues, and allows you to fit an authentic moorland hike into your busy holiday or midweek break schedule.
We meet at St Ann’s Well in the centre of Buxton, and climb out of the famous spa town and straight onto the surrounding moorland. Our journey takes us on what is considered a ‘local’s secret,’ away from the tourist crowds, to experience a true moorland landscape… cliff edge paths, barely distinct tracks, open moorland and high wetland.
Good weather and clear skies will give us fantastic panoramic views of Buxton and the surrounding Peak District hills and skylines. Low cloud will deliver a sense of true isolation and an atmospheric walk with iron age forts, lonely bunk houses and gritstone edges, looming out of the clag. Either way, our pace will be relaxed, allowing good conversation and the chance to discover, photograph and savour each step.
All too soon we descend back into Buxton, and the opportunity for refreshments at one of the numerous cafes and bars in this delightful spa town, where we have the chance to relax and talk over your few hours, well spent on the moors.
