Rachmaninov, Coleridge-Taylor and Dvorak in Finchley

Finchley Symphony Orchestra with conductor Christopher Stark present their autumn concert including romantic rarities and a great favourite.

The concert opens with the only completed movement of Rachmaninov's early ‘Youth’ symphony which points the way to his later great symphonic compositions.

The music of the Anglo-African Samuel Coleridge-Taylor was hugely popular a hundred years ago but is rarely heard today. Jordan Brooks, a talented young South African, winner of prizes in South Africa, China and the UK, will play the Violin Concerto in G minor. Nobody who loves the Brahms or Tchaikovsky concertos should miss hearing this.

Dvorak’s ever-popular seventh symphony is brimming with typically Bohemian melody, dance and drama.
