Terry Christian charity fundraiser with meal and Irish band
Well known TV and radio personality and stand-up comedian, Terry Christian, will be returning to Manchester following his tour in Edinburgh for a one off, comedy special in Didsbury on 30 November.
He is performing an hour long set as part of a night of comedy and music organised by Worker Bee coffee to raise much needed funds for Annie, a six year old who has a genetic condition that is believed to affect just 50 people in total in the world.
Joining Terry on stage at the Northern Tennis Club will be Irish band, Jigs and Reels and guests will also enjoy a two course meal where all profits from event will go to Annie’s Just Giving charity.
Annie’s condition is so rare that it does not even have a name, all that’s known is that she has a variant in the MAPK8IP3 gene which has affected her brain development. This means that she is unable to talk or walk and has many day to day difficulties as she is severely sight impaired. The funds raised mean that Annie will be able to have valuable therapy which helps her to vocalise sounds, in the hope that this might turn into words, vibration therapy and special physio which helps to build her muscles. These are so weak that she finds sitting up tiring due to the low muscle tone in her trunk and it’s tricky for her to play like other children.
Annie’s mum, Holly, said: “The support we are getting means the world. I gave up my job as a product manager for a sportswear company to care for Annie full time. We don’t know what the future holds for Annie which is terrifying and so we set up her charity to be able to care for her in the long term. The NHS do a fantastic job for her, but with her condition being so rare, and with resources stretched for everyone, we have had to look for paid support. This is not just for additional therapy, but for everyday basics like a car seat with additional support and a specialised pram.”
