Baluji Interactions presents 'The Winter Solstice From Within'
London - On Saturday, 21 December 2024, Rich Mix will host a special concert composed by the acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Baluji Shrivastav OBE and an exceptional ensemble in a unique exploration of the winter solstice through music and visual art. Immerse yourself in the evening, with doors opening at 6:30 PM and the concert starting at 7:15 PM. Advance tickets are available for £13.
The concert traces the fascinating connections between ancient winter solstice celebrations and contemporary artistic expression, exploring the experience of the solstice from the perspective of a blind composer. This unique composition was commissioned by SAA-UK and is an hour-long performance taking the audience through a journey from darkness to light. From prehistoric Inca fasts to midwinter feasts at Stonehenge, the winter solstice has been honoured by cultures worldwide. ‘Winter Solstice From Within’ will showcase this timeless celebration through a unique combination of sounds and visuals.
‘Winter Solstice From Within’ creates an immersive experience with Baluji Shrivastav OBE on sitar, surbahar and jaws harp, joined by blind Japanese violist Takashi Kikuchi, tabla/percussion maestro Yousuf Ali Khan, the captivating vocals of Linda Shanson and visuals by accomplished projection artist Dimitris Menexopoulos. Baluji Shrivastav's interpretation of the winter solstice is inspired by the ancient legend of the monkey god Hanuman who swallows the sun mistaking it for a delicious fruit!
