Britain's What's On Event Guide
A Shepherd’s Journey
This year we are approaching the Nativity story through the eyes of the shepherds: at first baffled and terrified by the news the angels bring, then intrigued and excited, going to visit the Infant King. Bob Chilcott's beautiful Shepherd's Carol is told from their perspective, standing at the cribside and relating their fantastic tale. John Rutter makes an appearance (how could he not?), including with his earliest published work, the lively Shepherd's Pipe Carol. We also feature the charming pastoral scene from Handel's Messiah in which the angels appear, singing Glory to God.
We are particularly excited to be featuring the world premiere of a new carol, written for the choir by contemporary British composer Ben Ponniah, sitting alongside other reflective and moving music by John Tavener, Ben Rowarth, and more. And there will of course be the opportunity to sing some favourite carols, supported by our regular collaborator Will Mason on the organ. A festive treat of music known and unknown and a wonderful way to begin your festive musical season.
