Talk: My Choice as a Volunteer
This talk will focus on the objects that museum collections volunteer Tom Allen chose for the Volunteers’ Choice special exhibition, explaining why he chose them. He’ll centre on material relating to Captain Robert Hawkes and its connection to his time at The Royal Logistic Corps Museum in Worthy Down. Along with discussing the two objects selected for the exhibition, he’ll also talk about one not included and his joys of getting to know the collection and learning more about its history.
Tom Allen has been working in museums since 2008, mostly with military collections, and has written several articles for the journal Soldiers of the Queen, published by the Victorian Military Society. Before becoming a volunteer at West Berkshire Museum, he was Assistant Curator at The RLC Museum but left to start volunteering at West Berkshire Museum to gain more experience of working with a non-military collection.
Bookings close at 4pm the day before the talk.
This talk complements the Volunteers’ Choice special exhibition.
