Passion Music by Will Todd - PCU Choral Concert with Jazz Septet
An Easter Concert Not to be missed!
Portsmouth Choral Union and Jazz Septet with conductor David Gostick
Passion Music is a 40-minute choral composition by British composer Will Todd that blends jazz and choral music. The piece is scored for a female gospel soloist, choir, and seven-piece jazz ensemble. It explores Easter-themed texts and highlights different points in the Passion story. It has new settings of the hymns ‘Greater love has no man’ and ‘Were you there when they crucified my Lord?’
Also in the programme is 'Feel the Spirit'. A cycle of seven familiar spirituals, expertly arranged by John Rutter. The vivid and expressive arrangements performed as a complete cycle, showcases the rich heritage of the spiritual. The work brings new life to such well-loved titles as Steal away, I got a robe, and When the saints go marching in.
