Thames Philharmonic Choir - An Evening of Mozart and Martines
After a wonderful Christmas concert in Kingston in December, we are looking forward to performing Mozart’s Requiem at Cadogan Hall on Saturday 22 March. Please join us.
Most people love Mozart and his Requiem is undoubtedly one of the most outstanding and memorable oratorio works ever written, or nearly written as the case may be. Mozart famously died during the composition process (although the work was latterly completed by a variety of other composers) and the spirit of the dying man lives through this work: brilliant, vivacious, at peace yet fearful of what was to come. The Dixit Dominus by Marianna Martines is less well known but a wonderfully buoyant setting of the work. Marianna was an eminent contemporary of Mozart’s with whom he often played piano duets at parties. The programme is rounded off with Mozart’s spirited settings of the Marian antiphon Regina Caeli and Divertimento in D for strings.
We will once again be joined by the Beaufoy Sinfonia – they played with us for the Brahms’ German Requiem last year. Many of their players are recent graduates of the major London conservatories and are often to be found within the ranks of the UK’s leading orchestras. We will also have a team of exciting young soloists, including our own TPC Scholars. The concert will be conducted by Harry Bradford.
As usual, the Cadogan Hall bar will be open after the concert, giving Choir members and audience the chance to socialise over a drink.
We hope you will join us for what should be an exciting evening of wonderful music. We anticipate it will be a popular concert, so book soon to avoid disappointment!
