About this Event

Blue Earth Project (BEP2025): Space Exploration...For Whom?

BEP2025: NoRCEL's annual Saturday science-in-society Leeds Hybrid Forum.

The desire to explore the Universe and the possibility of colonising another distant planet—i.e., the so-called utopian “planet B” is extremely compelling, tapping into fears about our future on Earth, but also sparking imagination about what is possible. The idea of space exploration often raises interesting ethical, environmental, and practical questions, such as who is benefitting from space exploration? Is it corporations, governments, science or the public, and should we really be putting so much energy and resources into it when there are so many pressing issues here on Earth?

At BEP2025, we examine who is likely to benefit from space exploration, as well as whether or not to prioritise exploring space at any expense. Join us for a thought-provoking discussion with leading experts from around the World. Whether you're a science enthusiast or simply curious about the global impact of exploring the cosmos, this event is your chance to ask questions, challenge ideas, and shape the conversation.
