Concert: Songs of Springtime
Following the winter months, Cantores Olicanae choir celebrate the warmth and wonders of a new season with their Songs of Springtime concert, on Saturday 15th March at 7.30pm in St John’s Church, Ben Rhydding.
This concert showcases Elgar’s ‘Songs from the Bavarian Highlands’ and Moeran’s ‘Songs of Springtime’. Elgar’s music was inspired by a memorable holiday in Bavaria and set to poems written by Alice, his wife. Also featured is music by Parry, Stanford’s ever popular ‘The Bluebird’, as well as ‘I Love all Beauteous Things’, written by Weir and performed at the celebration of H.M. Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday.
The delightful choral pieces in the concert celebrate the changing of the season from the dark, cold months of winter to the light and warmth of spring. The music reflects when trees, plants and daffodils begin to bloom, when sunshine follows rain and when hearts and thoughts turn to songs of love, hope, light, nature, dancing and beauty.
The choir will be led by their Musical Director James Savage-Hanford, accompanied by Robert Sudall and joined by the flautist, Lizzie Gurney.
