About this Event
Gloria
Temenos Chamber Choir, conducted by Patrick Craig, will perform Vivaldi's Gloria, and a less well-known work - the Missa Scala Aretina, by another Baroque composer, Francisco Valls, on Saturday March 22nd at 7.30 pm, at St Nicholas' Church, Sevenoaks, Kent.
The choir will be accompanied by the St Cecilia Baroque Players, a fine group of musicians playing on period instruments.
Vivaldi's much-loved Gloria is known to many, with its joyous music, probably written for the girls at the Orphanage in Venice where Vivaldi taught music. But the Valls is less well-known - its music was considered very controversial at the time! It has 11 separate voice parts, plus orchestra and continuo, and it certainly deserves to be heard. This is a great chance to hear music that has rarely been performed.
