Mount Kelly Choral Society concert: Carl Orff's Carmina Burana
Mount Kelly Choral Society will perform Carl Orff's dramatic and powerful work, Carmina Burana, as part of this year's Tavistock Festival. Written in 1935-6, and based on the idea of the turning Wheel of Fortune, the work consists of settings of 13th century poems, mainly in secular Latin or medieval German, and often bawdy in nature. The cantata is divided into three main sections: Springtime, In the Tavern, and The Court of Love, which will be performed in the thrilling arrangement for choir, soloists, two pianos and percussion.
