Journey to the New World: Little House on the Prairie meets Dvorak
A concert for all the family with the Piatti Quartet
Laura knows that hers is among the first families of the late 1800s to make the journey West. From their woodland home in Wisconsin, she, her parents and her two sisters, Mary and baby Carrie, will travel to the unexplored prairie and build a new life there. In 1892, the composer Antonín Dvorák and his family left their home in Bohemia (now part of the Czech Republic) to discover the ‘New World’: America. The ‘American’ Quartet (String Quartet No. 12) was inspired by this trip, and it is this piece around which we hear snippets of Laura’s story, brought to life by the melodies and harmonies Dvorák gathered and crafted on his own journey…
