About this Event
Gustavo Durán returns to Dartington
Jonatan Alvarado - tenor
Samuel Diz - guitar
Introduction by Lucy Durán - daughter of the composer.
This concert marks the final day of a residency by Jonatan Alvarado and Samuel Diz at Dartington, following three days of recording their upcoming album, which revives the music Gustavo Durán composed during his exile. Alongside Lucy Durán, Emeritus Professor of Music at SOAS-University of London, music producer, and the composer’s youngest daughter, Alvarado and Diz will bring to life three songbooks that Durán compiled between 1944 and 1963. These songbooks are a collection of melodies Durán performed and sang across his many homes across the Americas, spanning from 12th-century Spanish courtly melodies to modern Latin American songs, drawn from an astonishing range of sources.
