Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines

Classic British period comedy film THOSE MAGNIFICENT MEN IN THEIR FLYING MACHINES or How I Flew from London to Paris in 25 Hours and 11 Minutes, screening in association with the Steam Punk Fair at the Drill Hall on Saturday12. Movie of choice selected by the overwhelming majority of steam punk stall holders, it celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.
Created long before CGI was dreamt of, dozens of period accurate life-sized replica working aeroplanes were made and flown in this film, which is noted for its spectacular flying scenes. It's set in 1910 and follows a fictitious international air race to promote Britain as “number one in the air” organised by a London publisher – who has to contend with entrants vying for his suffragette would -be aviatrix daughter, as well as national rivalries and cheating! With a host of British comedy icons of the 1960s, (including Terry-Thomas, Eric Sykes, Tony Hancock John Le Mesurier, Benny Hill) + a host of other film stars to spot! (inc Robert Morley, James Fox, Sam Wannamker, Willie Rushton, Sarah Miles, Dame Flora Robson, Millicent Martin etc etc!)
