Yvonne Davies and Paul Morgan – ‘Sea Dwellers’

Brother and sister, Paul Morgan and Yvonne Davies grew up by the sea in Swansea and spent much of their childhood exploring the Gower coast. They now live in Swansea and Carmarthen  respectively. “Some of our seafaring ancestors  moved to South Wales, working in shipping, and our grandfather Ron with the navy. Morgans dwelt locally, finding work in the industries of the 1800’s. In the 50’s-60’s, Dad maintained The Mumbles lighthouse and the Swansea dockland cranes. Mum made sure we were on the beach every summer, with sandwiches and tea. Most of all, she encouraged us to draw and paint, always nurturing our interest in art.”

Today reclamation of those past industrial lands have given us areas where we can walk and enjoy the wildlife on the coasts and estuaries from the south to the west of Wales. Many of these influences can be seen in Paul and Yvonne’s work and they aim to express their joy of being ‘Sea dwellers’, through their art.

Paul and Yvonne have both studied, in the past, at Carmarthen Coleg Sirgar. Paul has, primarily, been a sculptor ,who has worked in metal, stone and wood and you will see a sense of this in Paul’s paintings. Yvonne has maintained her interest in art through attending community art classes and still makes art with our local club - Carmarthen sketch club and art society. Many guest artists, from King St Gallery and throughout Carmarthenshire visit our club and help us to continue enjoying our art.
