Emma Reid & Ellika Frisell: Deeply rooted in the Swedish fiddle tradition, Emma & Ellika play tunes and improvised second voices with power and variety. New compositions stand side by side with traditional material from Bingsjö and Orsa in the county of Dalarna. Fiddles and re-tuned violas; voices with strongly personal expressions.
Emma, a star in the new generation of fiddlers, has roots in both the English and Swedish tradition and is now one of Sweden’s most sought-after musicians.
Ellika is a stubbornly curious, established veteran on the Swedish folk and world music scene. She has received much acclaim for her life work to further develop the living heritage from her teachers.
Jon Holmén grew up with the music of his home village of Boda and began playing fiddle at an early age. As a musician Jon enjoys all settings where the music becomes a way to express, communicate and socialise - from the stage to the living-room. He is highly regarded as a fiddler in the traditional music of Dalarna.
Sven Ahlbäck comes from northern Uppland in Sweden. Regarded as one of Sweden’s leading fiddlers, he started playing the fiddle at a young age, learning from the legendary fiddler Anton Jernberg, who taught Sven a rich tradition of tunes from Gästrikland, which still is the core of Sven’s repertoire.
Ami Dregelid is known both as a dancer and a teacher and is an important role-model in today’s folk dance scene. She has more than 30 years experience in folk dance education and her dancing and teaching have been very influential in the folk dance community.
Andrew Parr trained as a dancer in Sweden and is also a talented musician.
