Bolam St Andrew's
Heritage Open Day: A beautiful, medieval church with a Saxon tower, where people have worshiped for a thousand years. The churchyard contains historic headstones, a Commonwealth war grave and a new war memorial erected in 2019. St Andrew's dates from early medieval times, and the structure is little changed since the 14th C. The original building dates from the late 11th C with Saxon / Norman overlap of styles in the Tower and Nave. The long chancel appears to have been originally apsidal with the east end having been extended with a larger Sanctuary in the 13thC.
The church building is Grade I listed. The tower is in the Saxon style and considered to be one of the finest examples of the Northumbrian type.
