St john the Evangelist church Walton Warrington
Heritage Open Day: Located in the conservation village of Walton, Warrington, described as a mini cathedral, the church was built by Sir Gilbert Greenall, Bart. for the Walton estate workers. The church is in gothic style built in 1885 of Cheshire sandstone. This beautiful Victorian church was consecrated in May 1885 during a snowstorm! It was funded by Sir Gilbert Greenall, a wealthy brewery owner. The family lived a Walton Hall, now owned by Warrington Borough Council, and is a very popular amenity for visitors. Sir Gilbert's son became the first Lord Daresbury and the Lord Daresburys continue as patrons of St john's church.
